Victorian Teacher-Librarians

A place for Victorian Teacher-Librarians to 'meet' and share

Julie Squires

It's time to get serious about the CBCA Shortlist and Book Week

Our big week is approaching fast and I would love to hear what others are thinking and saying about the shortlisted titles and what, if any, activities other T-Ls have planned for their libraries during Book Week.

I have read Sonya Hartnett's book, The Ghost's Child which I quite enjoyed although the end was a little obvious. It is different, 'other-worldly' and mysterious. I suspect students will either love or hate it. I have also read and enjoyed the early childhood books and I love Lucy Goosey...I teared up when I read this tale about unconditional love. I even started a Voicethread for it as an experiment but I haven't been back to check on progress there.

The Shaggy Gully Times made me laugh out loud and, for me, that makes it a clear winner. Also, there's a useful PDF document for teachers at the publisher's site: http://www.harpercollins.com/harperimages/ommoverride/ShaggyEventKi...

I have planned a 3 week 'Literature Discovery Tour' at my P-12 School rather than a I week 'Book Week' only focus. The festival will involve a book launch, short story competition, daily quizzes and anything else I think of in the meantime.

Would love to hear what others are doing...
