I must confess Julie that I miss the little ones from primary school, probably more so now than when I first started here. I also miss looking at, and sharing, all of those great picture books which come through with the sellers. However, I do love working with the older students. I'm at a school where students all have their own computers so having access to, and teaching with, technology has been really exciting and rewarding. Working in a team has been great too. A small primary school usually only had me, and one technician if I was lucky. Here I'm in a team so some great opportunities for teamwork and sharing. I'm in and out of classes as a TL so I get a lot of variety as well.
Yes, we don't get a lot of the "girly" books in the library. I've had to buy the last few Maureen McCarthy books myself! We tend to buy a lot of fantasy as lots of our really good readers just devour them, and of course we get a lot of sports books. I'm not really a fan of either genre, but I always manage to have a stack of books from the library to read, so there's something for everyone. Fortunately we do have a good collection of picture books in the Library so I don't miss out on all of them.
Hi Karen, Great to have you. I'm curious about your experiences so I have to ask...do you prefer working as a T-L in a primary or secondary school? (I'm at a P-12) Also, does the fact that you're at an all boys' school influence what is selected for the library?
